Bellatrix Recorder Quartet

Bellatrix Quartet PhotoBellatrix Recorder Quartet is The Sydney Conservatorium’s premier recorder quartet comprising of graduate students Alana Blackburn, Laura Bell, and Alicia Crossley and 2008 guest artist and current Conservatorium student Joanne Arnott.

These talented musicians perform a range of works, from traditional renaissance and baroque pieces to contemporary jazz. They are also strong advocates of Contemporary Australian music, and have numerous projects with local composers, currently underway. Over the years, Bellatrix has performed at Mosman Music Club, Lane Cove Music Club, McArthur Music Club, Robertson Music Club, and toured to Queensland to perform at schools and in concerts, sponsored by the Sydney Conservatorium and Yamaha Music Australia.

Bellatrix has organised performance demonstrations for various primary and high schools throughout QLD, ACT and NSW including The Cranbrook School, St Catherine’s School, MLC Burwood, St Andrew’s Cathedral School, Macquarie College, Avondale Primary School, Yeo Park Infants School and St Peters Lutheran College. These performances are designed to demonstrate the various sizes and uses of the recorder as well as sharing their experiences as young professional recorder players. Many schools have also invited Bellatrix to not only demonstrate their music and recorder skills but tutor ensembles within the school. This year Bellatrix presented at the Orff Schulwerk teacher’s conference held in Sydney.

Each member of the quartet draws from her professional experience with other ensembles such as La Folia, Salut! Baroque, The Sydney Consort, The Bell Shakespeare Company and Pastance as well as lessons and master classes both individually and as an ensemble from renowned international teachers and performers.
