Niky Clegg

Mezzo-soprano

Niky Clegg PhotoNiky has previously assisted Raroa Music School as a reliever in 2006 and is a current tutor for 2008. Before that she was based in Hamilton, directing and teaching the Waikato Children’s Choir and the Hamilton Community Choir. She has also been a composer and musical director for Riverlea Stagecraft Drama School. The Magic Paua Shell (2003) and Theandrican (2004) are two shows she has composed the music for.

For the last 8 years she has also been privately teaching singing, piano and theory, with many of her students gaining top marks in their exams. In 2005 she started her music degree at the University of Waikato and following that was invited to join the Golden Key International Honours Society. They gave Niky a Service to the Community Scholarship as a result of her teaching children in the community. In 2006 she achieved her Associate Diploma of ANZCA (Australian New Zealand Cultural Arts) with Honours in Voice. In 2007 she finished her music degree at the New Zealand School of Music and in 2008 will be continuing training towards being a primary school teacher.

In the past she has played recorder, violin, double bass and piano to various levels. At high school she played guitar and tenor horn. She has a son named Greg, a husband named Drew, and has been living in Wellington for just over a year. She loves her new city and home.
